Accessibility statement

Last updated October 27, 2026

Everyone in a clinical program should be able to use Rotara, whatever device or assistive technology they rely on. We build Rotara to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What we do

  • Every form field has a visible label that screen readers announce, and errors are announced as they appear.
  • Everything is reachable with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
  • Text and controls meet WCAG contrast ratios in both light and dark mode.
  • Pages fit a screen 320 pixels wide (a laptop zoomed to 400%) without sideways scrolling. Wide tables scroll inside their own box, and that box can be reached and scrolled with the keyboard.
  • Progress bars and charts have text equivalents, and color is never the only way information is shown.
  • Choice buttons and filters announce whether they are selected.

How we test

Before each release, an automated test suite opens every screen in Rotara as a visitor, a student and a program director, and:

  • runs the axe accessibility checker against WCAG 2.2 A and AA, plus axe's own best practice rules, on a desktop and a phone;
  • repeats the contrast checks with the device set to dark mode;
  • checks that the edges of text fields have at least 3:1 contrast, in light and dark mode;
  • widens line, letter and word spacing to the WCAG test values and checks that no text is cut off;
  • checks every screen at 320 pixels wide for sideways scrolling;
  • tabs through the logging screens on a phone and checks that the focused control is never hidden behind the top or bottom bar;
  • completes the main tasks with the keyboard alone: signing in, logging hours with the hospital picker, and a preceptor completing and signing an evaluation from an emailed link.

On the last run, on October 27, 2026, these checks found no problems on any screen.

Known gaps

We list what we know falls short, or has not been checked yet, so you can judge for yourself.

  • Automated checks find many problems but not all of them. Rotara has not yet had a full manual audit with screen readers (such as VoiceOver, NVDA and JAWS) or testing by people with disabilities. Until it has, we do not claim full conformance with WCAG 2.2 AA.
  • Documents that programs and students upload, such as certificates and affiliation agreements, are shown as they were uploaded.
  • Excel downloads use clear header rows, and the graduation packet prints from the web page, but neither has been tested with a screen reader yet.

Tell us

If something in Rotara is hard to use with your setup, please tell us through the contact form. Students can also ask their program to pass it on. We treat accessibility problems as bugs to fix.
